Child Passenger Safety Program

The Lewisburg Police Department is proud to offer our Child Passenger Safety Program.  Under the direction of Lieutenant Rebekah Mitchell we have been designated as a Tennessee Child Passenger Safety Fitting Station.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that research on the effectiveness of child safety seats has found them to reduce fatal injury by 71 percent for infants (less than 1 year old) and by 54 percent for toddlers (1-4 years old) in passenger cars. For infants and toddlers in light trucks, the corresponding reductions are 58 percent and 59 percent, respectively.

We would like to thank our local Kiwanis Club for supporting our program through the donation of infant car seats.

Several members of the Lewisburg Police Department and the Lewisburg Fire Department have been certified as Tennessee Child Passenger Technicians.  These technicians are able to inspect child car seats to ensure they are correctly installed. They will also check the seat to see if it is on the recall list.  Technicians will provide instruction and demonstrate the proper method for installing your car seat.

Child Passenger Safety Checkpoint

On Saturday, September 12th, 2009, the Lewisburg Police Department conducted a car seat safety inspection checkpoint at Wal-Mart.  Certified child passenger safety inspectors and installers from Lewisburg’s Police Department and Fire Department inspected and installed several car seats for members of our community.  Ollie the Otter also made an appearance to show the kids how important seat belts are for the safety of all passengers in the vehicle.  Take a look at the pictures below!
