9-1-1 Dispatch Center

Text Box: LEWISBURG POLICE DEPARTMENT
			   Lewisburg, Tennessee

The Lewisburg Police Department Dispatch Center is the primary Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for Marshall County.  As the primary PSAP, all 9-1-1 calls are answered by our Dispatch Center.

Depending on the location and type of call for service, our dispatchers will either dispatch a Lewisburg City Police Officer and/or the Lewisburg City Fire Department.  If the incident is outside the city limits or is a request for emergency medical assistance, our dispatchers will transfer the call to either the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office or the Marshall County Emergency Medical Service.

In the last few years, the proportion of 9-1-1 calls originating from cellular telephones  has dramatically increased.   This has posed some difficulties for 9-1-1 centers since, on many occasions, the caller may not know their exact location or may be unable to communicate that information.  Thanks to the efforts of the Marshall County Emergency Communications District, we have a 9-1-1 system that, in most cases, can establish the location of the caller based upon GPS data from the cellular phone.
